Addressing Racism in the Workplace: A Personal Step Toward Reconciliation

Based on an innovative educational approach, this session will be a combination of lecture format, role-playing, and small group debrief. Following a brief introduction, communication strategies for difficult conversations will be introduced. Participants will then apply these strategies using role-playing to simulate a clinical scenario depicting racial micro-aggressions in the workplace towards Indigenous persons, followed by a facilitated debrief.

Note: Registrants for this workshop should expect to experience some level of discomfort while the intent is to make space for courageous conversations.


Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the ongoing legacy of racism in Canada;
  2. Reflect on their own personal role in addressing racial microaggressions in the healthcare setting;
  3. Enhance their own professional communication skills in addressing difficult conversations.
